It’s
hard to describe the passion with which John approaches environmental
health issues. As an epidemiologist, he strives to uncover the environmental
causes of cancer and has investigated numerous cancer clusters. He serves on
various committees and has spoken to legislative bodies within Kansas regarding
public health concerns, most recently regarding the hazards of secondhand smoke.
He has assisted the Kansas Department of Health and Environment with the development
of a cancer prevention plan for the State. John is a member of the Brain Tumor
Epidemiology Consortium and is a certified Radon Measurement Provider. Nationally,
he is the Director of Continuing Education for the Epidemiology Section of the
American Public Health Association and member of the association’s Education
Board. His MPH teaching includes environmental health and cancer epidemiology
and his research interests are residential exposure to radon and lung cancer,
residential exposure to radon and multiple sclerosis, and the causes of brain
cancer.
