A Kansas native, Catherine Lindsey Satterwhite is an infectious disease epidemiologist with a primary interest in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including adverse reproductive outcomes of STDs. An international expert in the epidemiology and surveillance of sexually-transmitted Chlamydia trachomatis infections, Dr. Satterwhite spent over 10 years working for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), first in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, then in the Division of STD Prevention.
Now at the University of Kansas Medical Center, after time in New York City, Paris, and Atlanta, her current work focuses on forming partnerships with state and local health departments to advance the improvement of sexual health, emphasizing overall healthy communities. Through these collaborations, Dr. Satterwhite also plans to conduct research on innovative approaches to STD prevention, such as identifying and removing barriers to implementing effective strategies to treat sexual partners of individuals with diagnosed STDs. She is also interested in identifying methods to utilize electronic administrative claims databases to answer public health questions. Dr. Satterwhite has a joint academic appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
